• Hello,

I am trying to upload a photo to the catablog entry and after it reaches 100% in upload (at first it gave me a fatal error: memory exhausted message) now it says “Upload Error: 500” (In Flash Upload Version) .. I tried disabling flash uploading and using normal upload version, however it led me to a blank page ..

Could anyone please provide me a fix ??

    Thanks

Quick question, where exactly were you getting the out of memory message? I am guessing when uploading new images? Are you using the flash uploader? Did you try uploading images without the flash upload? I am trying to narrow down what part of the plugin needs optimization. Thanks

I can answer that, because I’m getting the same issue, I think. My error is slightly different:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 3200 bytes) in /home/berrysou/public_html/wp-content/plugins/catablog/lib/CataBlogItem.class.php on line 729

It happens when using either the flash uploader or the non-flash uploader. The files I’m trying to upload are less than 150K…

I don’t think I used to have this problem with Catablog… I’ve just attempted uploading new photos (first time in about 6 months) and even after optimising the bejesus out of them, I’m still getting this problem. I remember it used to happen if you tried to upload bigger images e.g. 1.5MB. But now it just seems to happen all the time.

I’m now working with my server admin to increase memory for PHP, but jeez, why should that be necessary?

Your memory problems could be caused by lots of things besides CataBlog, including WordPress itself. I would be very surprised if WordPress’ memory foot print didn’t enlarge significantly with the newer 3.4 releases. Did you upgrade WordPress as well?

CataBlog can only use what memory is left on your server after WordPress and other software claim theres. There is no way to know who is the culprit, short of watching your server’s resources in a tool such as top.

I have had this problem in the past as well, my personal recommendation is to get a server with at least 128MB of memory for WordPress. It speeds things up and makes WordPress such a better product when you give it extra memory, just like Photoshop, MS Word or any other program on your computer.

I guess the short end of it all is that 32MB is not a lot of memory these days. Even for a web server.

I agree with macguru2000, nowadays 32mb of memory is not enough. There are too many factors that would need more memory i.e traffic, plugins etc. I have had too many issues in the past and present because of 32mb ram. I’ve had to upgrade it to 64mb and above to eliminate all my problems.

32mb of ram might be okay for a straight installation of WordPress without any traffic or plugins but we all know that blogs and or websites start to grow both in traffic and plugins.

    IMHO

    Kind regards
