On WordPress 4.9.1 and WP Mail SMTP v1.0.0, having the plugin installed and activated causes other areas of WordPress Admin to show “Are you sure you want to do this?” nonce error screen when saving, and the screens do not save the data. To make sure it is WP Mail SMTP, I have disabled all other plugins except it, and enabled my other plugins one by one. For example, Gravity Forms, or Disable Comments show this error when changing their settings in the Settings screens. Disabling WP Mail SMTP fixes the problem. I have tested this on two different sites on different domains as well, same results. I am certain WP Mail SMTP is causing this issue. From what I have read, the “Are you sure you want to do this?” prompt is caused by a nonce error (mismatched or missing nonce in a form submission.) Not sure if that helps.
