After the WordPress 5.6 update, all the popups on my site (created using the plugin Popup Maker) stopped working. When I click on a link to trigger a popup, the popup is invisible and the page freezes entirely.

I was able to isolate the problem and there seems to be a conflict with WP-Optimize. When I deactivate WP-Optimize, the popups work fine.

  • Hi @racheliza,

Could you share your website URL, as well as what settings are set for minifying JavaScript?

    Marc.

I’ve tested Popup Maker with WP-Optimize active and WP 5.6, and it worked fine.
So there could be more involved in the equation, unless if it’s just because your popup uses different parameters.

    Hi @marcusig,

The popups are on this page: https://www.translatus.com/services/

Minification of JS files is turned on. I just unchecked “Enable merging of JavaScript” and now the popups seem to be working again.

    Thanks for your help,

    Rachel

Minification of JS files is turned on. I just unchecked “Enable merging of JavaScript” and now the popups seem to be working again.

Okay, that’s the important setting, as with modern browsers and servers the merging is not always necessary for good performance.

I’ll do a bit more testing to see if certain things break, but for now it’s all working.

Thanks for your feedback and report.
    Marc.
