Connections is awesome! I just have a few minor issues that need to be resolved then we can go live. First, I checked the thread here for the first issue, trying to hide the word “Work” but the short codes that Steven Zahm posted aren’t working.

Second issue – I wanted to add the full alpha index to the top of the page, so added the short code – and it shows up, looks great. But it doesn’t work. Only the letters that are on that page work, all the others are links, but they don’t go to the letter when click on. So For instance, the first page has A and B, and those anchors work, but the rest of the alphabet doesn’t go anywhere.

    Here’s my shortcode:

    [connections show_alphaindex=’true’ repeat_alphaindex=’true’ str_home_phone=’Phone’ str_home_fax=’Fax’ str_cell_phone=’Cell’ str_work_phone=’Phone’ str_work_fax=’Fax’ str_personal_email=’Email’ str_work_email=’Email’]

Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

    Thanks!~

Can you please edit the page that has the Connections shortcode on and switch the editor to the HTML tab. Make sure you have no HTML tags within the shortcode, make sure to replace the quotes with real quotes in case fancy quotes were inserted during pasting the shortcode. That’s usually always the issue when a shortcode option is not working.

It sounds as if the alphaindex is functioning correctly. It is only to show the actual letters that are on the current page and jump to them. It does not have to ability to list all letters and then jump to the page where those letters are.

Thanks for getting back to me. I checked for fancy quotes and made sure I typed them all in manually in the HTML editor, but it didn’t change anything. I use TinyMCE Advanced, with the option to ‘Stop removing the p and br tags’ but I tried turning that off too, so the code wasn’t enclosed in p tags, and it didn’t help. I tried using real “quotes” instead of the single quotes. The code I have is what I copied from the Help > Shortcode Instructions and from your other post here. I tried disabling TinyMCE, and even tried turning off the admin bar on the frontend, still the same result. Also double checked and there are no tags within the code and I use the HTML tab to add shortcode, so I don’t know what else to do. I can still see “Work” before the phone and email, even after trying what you suggested. Tried replacing the single ‘quotes’ with real “quotes”. Still no change.

    RE: Alpha Index
I didn’t realize the Alpha Index only worked with anchor links. The Shortcode instructions says:

The repeat_alphaindex option inserts an A thru Z anchor list at the beginning of every character group. NOTE: the alpha index will only repeat if the show_alphaindex shortcode attribute is set to true

    [connections repeat_alphaindex=’true’]

Just so I understand, what is the purpose of repeating the alpha index? Is this supposed to be used elsewhere? From a user’s point of view, I guess they expect the full alphabet there to use as a quick menu. (Maybe a suggestion for a future update?) I’ll let them know we can’t use it though.

Maybe we need to take a step back and establish a baseline. The cMap template shortcode functions will only function with Connections 0.7.2.x and cMap 2.0.x. Can you please verify that you are using these versions?

Can you please provide a link to your directory?

Also in the instructions for show_alphindex:
Several of the premium templates will override the display of show_alphaindex, so it will only show the letters that are available to jump to within the entry list.

The purpose? I’ve had many requests from users to add the repeat_alphaindex feature so the entire alpha index would repeat. Since it was relatively easy to add, I did. This is more useful for lists that are not paginated which is why the alpha index is limited to the actual character groups on the current page of several of the premium templates that support pagination.

    Hi Steven,

I checked the admin and there’s no mention of a newer version of cMap, so we’re still trying to sort this out, trying to locate a link to download the latest version. There’s nothing on your site as a public link, from what I can see, and there’s no way to upgrade the cMap template in the WP admin (I don’t see a button or an Upgrade message anywhere). So maybe if we can get that link, this shortcode issue would be resolved.

I don’t want to post the link to the site in the forums, it’s still on the development server.

If you go to the Connections : Templates admin page, you can find the version of cMap you have installed. If it is not 2.0.x, you can freely download the update from the same download link and code supplied in the sales confirmation email received when you purchased cMap.

Update notices will always show up on the new Connections : Dashboard admin page.

    Hi Steven,

I downloaded cMap again using the link in the email, installed it in the WP admin, and it was the same version of cMap anyway, version 1.0.

    Perhaps I’m missing something?

There is a small bug in which the version number in the cache is not updated. This does not affect the functionality of the template once installed or upgraded. Has upgrading both Connections and cMap resolved this issue?

NOTE: To refresh the cache simply activate any random template and then reactivate cMap.

    That worked great! Thanks Steven.
