[Plugin: Contact Form 7] PIPES: Get Before Value using SMTP (not PHP mail function)

I am using pipes to select specific recipients based on location. I need to display the location name though (the value BEFORE the pipe) in my auto-response emails. I found this helpful info: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/plugin-contact-form-7-pipes-get-before-value

But it won’t work for me now, since the site has been migrated to a Windows server and now requires the use of SMTP to send out emails rather than the PHP mail function.

Is there a way to show the before value of pipes using SMTP mail?
