I don’t get all my widgets (?) to load up on the dashboard. I get the following error message `Warning: call_user_func_array() [function.call-user-func-array]: First argument is expected to be a valid callback, ‘cookielawinfo_custom_dashboard_styles_chimp’ was given in /<deleted>/wp-includes/plugin.php on line 405
    `

The plugin seems to working as intended apart from this glitch.

  • Same here. I just upgraded – was fine before that.

Hi there, thanks for letting me know. I’m uploading a fix right now.

Done, I’ve tested it both locally and on a remote website.

Thanks for the prompt response. But…although the error message has now disappeared, the plug-in is now not showing up either on my home page nor in Admin > Settings.

Hi Michael, hmm weird. Could you provide more details via https://www.cookielawinfo.com/contact/ ?

Could you try doing shift-F5 (windows) or Cmd-R (Mac) to refresh the cache in case it’s a stylesheet version issue?

When you way you don’t see it in Admin > Settings, do you see the new menu option “Cookie Law Info”? The settings page has moved there. I’ll make the next documentation clearer. If it’s missing altogether then if you have a screenshot you can show me that would help.

Regarding the missing cookie bar, in development I found that PHP has different versions of a function ‘json_encode’, and this may well be the issue. On some servers (with PHP v5.2.x or later) it works one way, on others it works differently. If this function fails then it outputs empty settings to the cookie bar and you won’t see it appear. Quite frustrating having to develop against 2 versions, I’ve tested it in different server configurations but it seems it may have slipped through?

I’ll see about getting a fix out today.

    Thanks,
    Richard

    ??

    Hi Richard,

I’m afraid a proportion of this is me being dim. I’ve now found the Admin UI link – didn’t think to look anywhere but where it used to be! – and I’ve also found that my problem is really a theme thing. I’m using twenty-ten as the theme and this (along with twenty-eleven) uses an ‘admin’ bar across the top of the screen with a few links incorporated in it. The cookie law info bar is actually there, but is obscured by this admin bar. I can test this by setting it to be shown in the footer instead of the header, in which case it does appear. Strangely, pre-upgrade, it appeared directly below the Admin bar, but has now managed to work its way ‘behind’ it. Still, I can work my way round that. One question, though: Is it possible to restrict the display of the cookie law info bar to just my home page? I have memory problems with WP and the less stuff I have running the better. I use the Widget Logic plug-in to achieve this in some instances, but I’m guessing this probably wouldn’t work with your plug-in?

I’ve posted all this here rather than contact you direct in case it benefits/forestalls others with a similar problem.

Hi Michael, glad it’s not a bug!

I’ll update the documentation to say that if you place the cookie bar in the header, then you don’t see the “show more” tab if you’re logged in. I tried to figure out why but ran out of time, maybe I’ll be able to change it in the next release.

Re: show only on home page (or ‘show only on listed pages’) I may well implement that, it’s already on my list of potential features, but no guarantees for the next release.

Re: performance – there are 2 enhancements I could make that I know of. At the moment I think the performance is pretty good. In version 1.0 I completely overhauled the jQuery for example, it’s now 3x faster. Maybe tuning up the database would improve things but I doubt by much. Do you have a lot of plugins installed e.g. > 10-15?

Thanks for taking the time to respond in detail, appreciated.
    Richard

    Hi Richard,

Thanks again. The memory business is not specifically concerned with this plug-in – it’s just that I do have a lot of (necessary) plug-ins running on this particular site, so I like to try and shut down anything not needed on a given page. I’ve now realised that I can actually accomplish this using the Head Space plug-in so, in my case at least – problem solved! (Plug-in now duly rated!). Have a good weekend.

    Thanks Michael, you too.
