First, I must say what an excellent plugin this is. We have evaluated several over the past few weeks. We are particularly keen to get one which is accessible for visually impaired people as some of our colleagues use screen readers. This plug in is the most friendly we’ve met and we want to use it.

Our problem comes when we paste in code for PiWik (our stats system) into either the footer or header dialogue boxes in the settings. Everything works fine until a site visitor clicks the agree button. At this point some extra characters appear in either the footer or header (depending upon where the analytics code was placed) – the characters that appear are “/* */” (not the quotes).

When we take the analytics code out the characters disappear. We used both standard Google analytics code and standard PiWik code to check if it was either or both of these. The characters appear for both but only when a visitor has agreed to cookies.

Any clues how we might fix this would be appreciated.

  • @withpeople, i have a site with piwik enabled as well and don’t have this problem… possibly by a quirk though.

i have this ticked ” Automatically wrap optional JavaScript in tags”

but i do embrace the piwik js with script tags.

    hope that helps.

    Hi dkirkland

Thanks for the thought – we had the auto wrap ticked but were also enclosing our script with tags. By turning the auto enclose off the issue was resolved.

Thanks for posting your idea as this is a tremendous help in getting the plugin installed on our site.

    Hi!

I see @dirkland has already pointed you in the right direction (thanks!).

I’m glad to hear the plugin works well for your visitors. If there’s anything that can be done to help improve it, feel free to let me know!
