Plugin – creating a custom social network on WordPress?

WordPress’ own solution is BuddyPress.

But as with all things WordPress, there are many 3rd-party plugins out there as well. The only one I’ve used personally (but only for an e-learning community) is BuddyBoss: https://www.buddyboss.com/platform/

All these plugins approach “social network” and community-building from slightly different angles, and you need to spec out your project a bit before you can zero-in on an appropriate solution.
