[Plugin: Custom Post Type UI] taxonomies leading to blog, not custom post

I’ve created a custom post type with its own custom taxonomy. However, when I click on the taxonomy in the sidebar, it brings me to the blog archive (not the custom post archive) and therefore shows no results. When I created the custom post type, I checked for it to have its own archive, so not sure why it keeps bringing me to the blog archive. I’ve also tried to give my blog posts a custom taxonomy, and those searches yield no results ether, which leads me to believe that whenever I click on a custom taxonomy, it automatically searches for blog posts by category (not by the custom taxonomy). Any idea why this is happening?
