• I’m searching for a way to remove plugin, theme and template “version” data, such as:

    <meta name="template" content="Responsive 1.6.9" />
    <meta name="theme" content="Cumulus Clouds 0.1" />
    <meta id="syntaxhighlighteranchor" name="syntaxhighlighter-version" content="3.1.3" />

    …along with wp_generator.

    As far as I’m concerned, this type of identification can be just as much of a security risk as showing the version of WordPress being used.

    Unfortunately it’s very difficult for a plugin to remove stuff that other plugins/themes are adding to your pages (because they don’t provide a way to filter content it in the same way the the core of WordPress does).

    One option is to manually hack the theme/plugin files to remove the offending content – but that obviously has its risks and will be reset when anything is updated.

    Yes, I’m very familiar with hacking the theme and/or plugin files to remove the offending content. I’m just sick of having to do it over and over again, every time the theme or plugin is updated.
