Hello. In recent months I have repeatedly had a problem with your plug-in — Google Captcha (reCAPTCHA) — on my self-installed WP blog.

On occasion — such as after updating the WP core files — I have to re-login to my blog. Upon trying to do this in the login field which is located in my blog’s sidebar — I use a plug-in by Mike Jolley called “Sidebar Login” — your plug-in throws me an error saying that I have not provided the correct captcha, and it refuses to log me in. This is obviously odd, because I have NEVER had to provide a captcha before. I simply enter my user name and password, and I am logged in.

Thinking that maybe there might be a conflict between your plug-in and the “Sidebar Login” plug-in, I decided to remove the “Sidebar Login” plug-in temporarily.

After removing that plug-in, I logged in to my blog using my wordpress.com account info. Then I tried adding a comment to one of my posts.

When I went to add the comment, I was not shown a reCAPTCHA screen. Instead, after hitting the submit button, I received an on-screen error message which says:

Error: You have entered an incorrect reCAPTCHA value.
Click the BACK button on your browser and try again.

My gosh! I was never even shown a captcha! And, yes, that option is enabled in your plug-in’s settings ??

The only way I have found around this annoying problem with your plug-in is by unchecking the login form option in your plug-in’s settings, or by removing the “google-captcha” folder from my plugins folder, and then logging in. Once I log in, I can re-enable the login form option in the settings, and/or then place the “google-captcha” folder back in the “plugins” folder. Obviously, having to repeatedly do either of these becomes tedious after a while.

Not only that, but if I am having this login problem with your plug-in, then I must assume that other potential visitors are as well.

BTW, I am using the very latest version of WP — 4.9.4 — as well as the latest version of your plug-in — 1.34.

Any help would be appreciated. It does not appear that this problem has anything to do with the “Sidebar Login” plug-in, because even when I remove it, your plug-in still acts up.

    Thank you.

Just to clarify my previous comments, with your plug-in enabled, whether I try to login to my blog, or post a comment on my blog, in both cases, your plug-in is not showing me the captcha screen. So because I am not seeing a captcha screen, it refuses to let me log in, and it refuses to let me leave a comment. The only way around this is for me to disable both of those options in your plug-in’s settings. That being the case, it is pretty pointless to even use it.

Am I missing something in my setup? Am I doing something wrong?

I have both my site key and secret key in the settings, and when I conduct the test there, it does show the captcha screen.

Also, I am not using any of the forms that are listed on the plug-in’s settings page. As noted earlier, I am only using the “Sidebar Login” plug-in so I can log in from my sidebar.

    Hi,

    Thank you for contacting us!

This kind of issue is generally caused by incorrect reCAPTCHA keys for the chosen reCAPTCHA version. Please make sure that you entered the correct domain when registering the reCAPTCHA keys and that you entered the correct reCAPTCHA’s keys for the chosen reCAPTCHA version on the plugin settings page. Make sure that there are no extra characters, such as spaces.
