[Plugin: DirtySuds – Embed PDF] Can not get it to work

I’m using WP 3.2.1 and self-hosting on Windows 7 using the latest WAMP

I may not fully understand how this plugin is supposed to work, but here is what I’m trying to acccomplish. When a vistor lands on a post or page, s/he ought to be able to click on a PDF button and have displayed a PDF version of the post or page.

I thought this is what the plugin in did. Accordingly, if I insert

[embed]https://mysite.com/docs/file.pdf[/embed]

The page, when posted, comes up blank.

If I just place the URL on its own line

https://mysite.com/docs/file.pdf

it still comes up blank.

Are there prerequites to use this plugin (e.g., Google Doc Reader)?

Since there are no settings or other configuration options for the plugin, I’m just assuming it’s supposed to work out-of-the-box. True?
