I implemented Disqus for a few days – I like a number of things, but the ones that caused me to uninstall is were ones I’m not willing to budge on. If anyone wants to comment on something on the blog (self-hosted), I want them to register on my site, not through Disqus only – I have an acceptable use policy that I want commenters to acknowledge having read before they can comment. I also wanted the comment count to auto-update WP, not just the Disqus widget.

I do note that the system is not showing as compatible with 2.6 and above, so it could be nothing more than that.

  • Hi Rick,

Comments made through the Disqus system does sync up with the WordPress database as well. There may be a slight wait before you see the update reflected on the count in WP.

Commenters /do not/ have to register with Disqus to leave a comment, but you are able to make those choices as a blog moderator.

We appreciate the feedback and are always available to help.

    Thanks,

    Daniel,

I have the same issues but I have stuck with disqus. WP users and Disqus users are not the same and do not have the same structure, for e.g. some of my users have spaces in the names and this is not supported or recognised by disqus. My users were very confused that they had sign up again and they had lots of errors due to the space and structure problem.

I have noticed that more people are commenting due to the easy way to comment, however I think that disqus would be more accepted if the users were synchronised on first install and a disqus user is added to the wp users base….

    thanks for a great plugin.

    Daniel,

After thinking about what you wrote in your email to me (for which I thank you!), and seeing what Northstar wrote (knowing I wasn’t alone in seeing what I was seeing helps ?? ) I’m going to re-implement Disqus on the blog – it may take a bit more time for me to configure to my satisfaction, and it may not be what I’d really like it to be (something that integrates with the WP users table), but it will likely increase the number of commenters. My hope is that the issue of comment spam never rears its head.

Thanks for all the work on the plugin!

It’s been 2 weeks since I got some comments on a post – they’re showing the the admin and when you click the “comments” link, but on the list of posts, the comment count it still showing as “0”.

    I’ve cleared the cache.

Everything is working fine for me EXCEPT my threads titles are = my blog title, not the title of the post they link to. How can this be resolved?
