Plugin does not work anymore since 5.3.1. update
-
Hey folks,
since I updated the plugin today from 5.3 to 5.3.1, it does not work anymore. Prompts me to choose my Analaytics Profile, but does not save any changes.
Any Ideas or same problem anyone?

Same here. The update to 5.3.1 renders the plugin useless. No reports, fields missing from the Dashboard, drop down menu is blank in the Dashboard as well.I can’t re-authenticate, reset defaults. All links within the plugin itself have no urls attached to them–clicking them does nothing.
After the 5.3.1 update the plugin’s settings pages appear to bejust a framework with all the functions missing. That’s the best I can describe it.
Furthermore, I found that after the update, in my WordPress admin, the (collapsed) left-hand WP menu bar’s fly-out menus were disabled as long as I was in any of the plugin’s settings pages. Upon leaving the plugin’s settings pages, the fly-out menus returned to normal.
I deleted the plugin for now and won’t update the one in my other WordPress powered site until a fix is found.
Is this the same problem you are describing?
https://github.com/Yoast/google-analytics-for-wordpress/issues/307laserjobs – It looks like it although what is missing in the plugin’s setting is a bit more extensive as to what is not working. I was able to revert back to version 5.3 but not without a fair amount of work.
I downloaded the 5.3 version of the plugin via FTP from my other site where the plugin was not updated and uploaded it to the site where the update to 5.3.1 “killed” the plugin. Simply activating version 5.3 didn’t work–same problems as seen with 5.3.1. I had to remove all the plugin’s entries from the site’s “options” table in the database before 5.3 would work again. Once that was done I reactivated 5.3,and I was able to re-authentic and now version 5.3 is working normally. It also kept all my tracking data.
Ok, I really don’t know why, but all is working again.
I had a problem with my PHP interpreter, wich was fixed by my hoster today, so I suppose this was not the plugins fault but mine.
mueggemarvin – Glad the problems is fixed for you. Who is your host by the way. Mine is Bluehost and they usually are up to date as far as PHP (and other modules) are concerned.
If your problem was fixed due to fixing a problem with your host’s PHP interpreter then something changed between version 5.3 and 5.3.1 that the devs didn’t bother mentioning in the change log. According to the change log for 5.3.1 as presented by the WP plugin update dialog box, there was no mention of say, a new minimum version of PHP that was required or something of a similar nature.
So I don’t consider this problem fixed. Something changed between 5.3 and 5.3.1 and I need to know what it was before I go bothering my host about it. Perhaps one of the developers can shed some light on this? I know that they participate in their plugins WP support forums now and then.
KirkM – FYI: On the developers page there are links to the older versions of the plugin along with the Development Log to look at the differences in code between versions.
https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/google-analytics-for-wordpress/developers/If this was a common problem the support forum would be flooded.
I am getting this error details:

Thanks@laserjobs – Many thanks for the link. Nine years usinig WordPress to power my websites and I’ve never found a link to previous versions of any given plugin. Either it’s hidden or I’m just not seeing it. ??
Oh, and I solved my problem with 5.3.1. It was indeed not the plugin.
In short, the plugin’s interface (free version) is severely crippled if an ad blocker is in use in the browser. For myself, I use Firefox with AdBlock Plus and I always have it disabled for my own websites but for some reason it was enabled again for the site that had the problem with the update (probably middle-clicked the icon by accident?)
I disabled AdBlock Plus for that particular site and all is well again, the plugin updated to 5.3.1 without a problem. The plugin’s interface (including the Dashboard) is working normally now.
I tested this 3 times so I’m pretty sure about this. First time for everything?
Thank you very much @kirkm.
I wish Yoast would clear all bug ones and for all…
I am having similar issues with version 5.3.2. The tracking code thats injected on the site looks fine but it doesnt work. I tried authenticating with Google as well as manually adding the UA code, but no success.
I solved this temporarily by switching back to version 5.2.8. Thanks for the link to the old versions. I knew that’s a fix because version 5.2.8 was installed an working on another website that I run. Please inform this thread if the issue is fixed. I like to have up to date software ??
