Plugin: Download Manager (alpha release)

    I’ve released a beta of Download Manager. Feature additions found in the beta:

    • A search is performed for the queried file in subdirectories of the download directory. So you can now organize files in subdirectories (and subdirectories of subdirectories, and so on) while using just the file name in your download query. You will need to specify the path to a file if you have more than one file with the same file name.
    • File names under Download Tracking link to a Full Tracking view of all downloads for that file. To return to (summary) Tracking view, click the [??] link at the end of “Download Tracking: filename [??] .”
    • Restricted access message settings are not displayed when Access level is ‘public’.
    • Minor admin page tweaking.

    Remaining features planned for final release: paging in Full Tracking view; clear individual files from tracking table; localization of admin page.

    Beta 2 released to deal with a problem related to the new “pluggable” functions in WordPress 1.5.1. Whacked a couple bugs in tracking as well.

    Any example site runing it? I have been looking for something like this for a VERY long time

    I really like this plugin but I can’t get it to work ??

    The tracking works fine, but clicking on the download link sends a mixed up garbage to the browser. Seems like some kind of MIME error ? Kafkaesqui I left a post on your page about this but it seems to have dissaperared or went off for moderation.

    how about if the downloadable material is on a different server/site?

    No, sorry.

    Right now Download Manager provides a certain amount of concealment to the download directory, and one of the requirements for this is a need to have a (local) filepath to the directory.

    When I finally get around to moving the plugin out of beta (!!!), I’ll look over the various feature requests I’ve received for an update. Consider it pencilled it in. No guarantees, though.
