I think it is a combination of a small bug in the plugin (which I’ve just added to the bug list) but it could also be caused by your PayPal settings.

Do you have any shipping options configured inside of PayPal?

I do have shipping configured in PayPal – since there’s a physical product being sold separately from the Digital Downloads.

If it’s a bug I’m a bit worried ?? I need to have this up and running by Monday. Hopefully just a settings issue. Greatly appreciate your speedy reply ??

Do you see the option that allows you to disable shipping options on products sold via the transactions API?

Another user had the same experience and they were able to disable it by turning off the option that applied shipping to orders placed via the API (as EDD does).

Cannot seem to find anything like that in the PayPal settings ??

I’ve just explored a bit, and I think it is this page: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/customerprofileweb?cmd=_profile-shipping

I’ve been to that page. Currently I have shipping set up there (for the physical product). I do not see a link on that page (nor on the next page for editing current shipping method) that mentions disabling shipping options on products sold via transactions API.

There is one line (under Edit for current shipping method) that says “Override shipping methods per transaction:” – But, whether it is Yes or No – I’m still seeing shipping charges added to the download.

Hmm, I know it is there somewhere . . . I’m traveling right now so can’t investigate it further.

I’m going to be doing an update tomorrow and will try to get this fixed, if you can be patient for 24 hours or so.

No prob. I really appreciate your help! I will also call PayPal tomorrow morn – so they can review my settings… In case that saves us both time ?? Thanks again Pippin!!

    Hey guys,

I am looking at this same issue. (BTW great plugin Pippin)
    I’ve got edd 1.1.4.1 installed.
My client has a business paypal account. I have drilled down everywhere in Paypal settings and can’t find any shipping config specific to the API. All the shipping methods are set to override methods per transaction.

My outgoing header (with a few bits XXX-ed out):

    https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr/?cmd=_xclick
    &amount=8
    &[email protected]
    &item_name=Green
    &[email protected]
    &no_shipping=1
    &no_note=1
    &currency_code=USD
    &item_number=XXX
    &charset=UTF-8
    &custom=1260
    &rm=2
    &return=https://www.example.com/purchase-confirmation/?payment-confirmation=paypal
    &notify_url=https://www.example.com/?edd-listener=IPN

I believe no_shipping=1 means “don’t prompt the user to enter their shipping information”

    When I added:
&shipping=0 to the end of the url, I got the desired behavior (no shipping cost added)

    Cheers!

Thanks @tonesfrommars, the “shipping=0” is the exact thing I was about to add.

I’ve just pushed out version 1.1.5, which includes the updated shipping.

Dude, your level of engagement is remarkable.
Thank you so much, it works like a charm.

This plugin really targets a niche that is neglected IMO (a non-bloated cart to handle the specific needs of digital goods).

    Excellent!

That’s the exact reason that EDD was built: to provide a plugin that does what all the other ecommerce plugins have neglected to do, which is focus on digital goods.
