[Plugin: Easy FancyBox] PDF not working – overlay will not open

    I’m having problems getting a PDF to load with Easy FancyBox. At first I used autodetect, and the PDF loaded in an overlay in Chrome, but I was only able to scroll with the arrow keys (and not with the trackpad). On Firefox & Safari, the FancyBox window opened and showed “Missing Plug-in”.

    Subsequently, I tried to emulate the fourth method on this page of the dev site (i.e., iFrame with Google Docs viewer). I don’t get the same result though. Instead, the PDF simply opens and then loads in Google Docs, rather than in an overlay.

    I noticed that other users have had success using Scribd. I note however that Scribd won’t work with protected PDFs, and for the moment I would prefer to keep the PDF copy-protected.

    Very grateful for any insight.

  • You need to enable FancyBox for the iframes. Check the iFrame feature on Settings > Media. You can disable the PDF feature if you are not using that anymore. Showing PDF in a browser depends on the PDF browser plugin being installed correctly at the client side…

    Hi Ravan,

    I’d like to use this specifically for PDFs. It’s working great in Safari and Chrome, but not in Firefox: An overlay opens, but the document does not display, and I get a message that an additional plugin is required. I click “Install Missing Plugins”, and the “Plugin Finder Service” window tells me “No suitable plugins were found.” I’m using Firefox 12.0 on Mac OS X 10.7.3. I tried the iFrame solution above and it didn’t help. Also tried installing the Use Google Libraries plugin, no change.

    PDF files need a browser plugin (not a WordPress plugin) to be visible in a browser. My WordPress plugin cannot do that.

    Good to hear you got it working with the google viewer. I’ll put something in the FAQ’s about that…

    One tip though: when linking to this Google Viewer, do NOT use the class fancybox-pdf but fancybox-iframe instead.

    Right, I understood it to be a Firefox browser plugin that was needed. Since I can’t count on all website viewers to be using the right browser or have optional browser plugins installed, I needed to find another solution.

    Yours is one of the best documented and most flexible *Box plugins I’ve found. Thank you!
