plugin editor vanished

  • I think that is the version I am using, but I am not sure, I am scared to upgrade it in case I lose things.

    Anyway.

    I upgraded akismet and it has removed my plugin editor. I just cannot get to it from the admin menu. I put akismet back in the plugins folder using filezilla, and copied over plugins.php, plugins-editor.php and plugins-install.php but still no joy.

    The site is working ok apart from akismet which has vanished but I can’t add plugins, activate or disable them.

    If you can help please reply in easy words, it is the summer holidays and I am being constantly talked at by a small child so it is difficult to concentrate! thanks!
