My server is with Blue Host, and they have php5.

I am new to wordpress, and I’m lost on this issue. I have successfully installed a “few” plugins, but have only successfully installed two. For all others (like sharedaddy, wp-page navi, and several others I want, I keep getting the same error message when I try to activate) : “Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_OBJECT_OPERATOR in /home4/ … in these brackets is the path to my ite / wp-content/plugins/geoposty/functions.php on line 78

It continue to say the error is line 78 in functions.php.

Anyone have any suggestions? Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The problem isn’t in the WordPress functions file, but in your geoposty functions file. Most likely one of the plugins you have already installed is breaking things. Try removing and deleting the geoposty plugin and also uninstall other plugins if needed and then attempt to install the new ones.

On a separate/helpful side note: You really do not want to go installing a lot of plugins. Try to keep them to an absolute minimum. For every plugin you install, regardless of whether it is in use or not, it is that many more queries which need to be made to the database and also causes that much more chance of your site going slow or crashing itself.

Just be cautious with what you install and if you are testing out plugins, make sure to both uninstall and delete them when you are finished testing.

    Good luck!

Lisa, it sounds like a PHP5 issue. You say you are running PHP5 through Blue Host, but I would double-check this – it may be an option that you need to switch on.
