Is there a way to enable guests (visitors to my blog) to submit events and have them remain in a pending status until the event is approved by an admin? That is the functionality I need. If not with Events Manager (Free version), is there another events plug in that will do that?

I need an event plug in that allows:

    1) events to be submitted by guests and approved by an admin
    2) ability to enter recurring events
    3) create event categories
    4) enter locations, show map
    5) search events
    6) display events in list (blog) format — nice to have

    Thanks,
    MissLivvy

PPNWA – do you have a Guest User set up? You need to create am “Anonymous” subscriber, assign it a role, and then set that user as the Guest Default User. (below where you set the option to allow anonymous submissions). Have you done that?

debsh – does the Location name search feature work on your event submission form? On mine it does not, even though I have it enabled to search (vs. show a dropdown pick list of locations).

you probably need to make sure the user you chose to assign new events to has the right capabilities within your em general settings tab.

Hi Marcus, I currently have the guest user set to have the same rights as admin and still the same issue. Also tried setting the guest user to admin itself. Also have tried changing WP themes to see if that was the issue and no luck. Plase let me know if you have any other thoughts. Thanks very much!

    Hi misslivvy,

Yes the location form works on my public event submission form, but only after typing the whole address in.

I know it’s frustrating when you have no idea what’s causing the problem. Is there anyway you can set up a test version of wordpress & events manager – and only those two, no other plugins, everything else default? And then slowly add on what you need to find out what is causing the conflict?

Hi Debsch, I am just starting my site. I don’t have any other plugins right now. I tried also changing themes. Same issue. Seems to be a permissions problem. The Location name search works great when I am logged in as admin, but not otherwise, even if I set guest user to admin. … hmmm.

PPNWA – Did you ever resolve your issue. I realize now I am having the same or similar problems with Guest Users. Problem #1 is that the Name search feature does not work to search for an existing location. The second problem is that when the Guest User enters a brand new event and location, I get “Unauthorized Access” after submitting the new event + location. However, when I log in as admin I do see the new location as Pending, but the event does not appear in the calendar after approving the new location. I can’t see anything wrong with my settings. This is what I have:

    Allow anonymous submissions = Yes
Guest Default User = admin (yes, admin, just trying to get this to work)
in my Users settings, admin is set to the Administrator role
Everything is checked for administrator under User capabilities

    Here is my page:

Also, I am on the latest version of WP and have no other plugins activated. Also, I have the same issue after switching themes. I am on the verge of giving up.

    Thanks for any response.

can you tell me what’s wrong with this then – https://demo.wp-events-plugin.com/submit-your-event/

If I can reproduce will fix. It looks ok to me though logged out (type ‘AR’ for example

as far as I’m aware, event submissions work ok, I know that region isn’t being populated properly in the auto-fill but will fix that (also has no effect on saving as we only use the location id for saving known locations).

yes Marcus, the location name search appears to be working in your demo. do you have another suggestion for me to try?

I’d really like to get this working on my site. Seems to have all the features I need.

    thanks,

maybe next update will fix it… try the dev version out (thats what the demo is running)

I’ll be fixing quite a few minor bugs that have piled up over the coming days, maybe that could fix it for you too.

Hi Marcus, I installed the dev version and still the same issue. I’ve tried changing themes. What theme is your demo? Also, maybe it has to do with my WP installation? Should I reinstall WP and start over? The odd thing is that the Name search works when I am logged in to the admin panel. But not when I am logged out. But I have guest user enabled and set to admin, so I don’t understand why it would not work the same when I am logged out. Thanks.

    our demo uses twentyeleven

it would usually either be your theme or a conflicting plugin causing this. Have you tried disabling other plugins?

@misslivvy: Marcus would be able to give you better advice but I noticed that you still haven’t got your text changed so this might be helpful for now:

Go to line 35 in /wp-content/plugins/events-manager/templates/forms/event-editor.php and change the text in following line:

<?php _e ( 'The event name. Example: Birthday party', 'dbem' )?>

    To your desired Text.

    Hope it helps.

NOTE: You might have to change the text again when plugin is updated.

    Hi,

I’m also having the same problem. It works find if it is admin but not has a guest. I’ve tested on a knew wp 3.3.2 installation with no plugin activated and the latest em version 5.16 with the twentyeleven theme and I’m experiencing the same location search not finding existing locations. With my theme in the location text field when I start typing letters and then the space bar, it is searching for the location because I Can see the wheel spinning but then it drops of and the field borders are highlighted. Something is running somewhere but with no result when submitting as a guest. When entering exactly the same name for a location it is save as a knew location.

Would like very much to solve this issue. I’m just about to publish the site in a few days and find the plugin very useful. thank you!

could be that your assigned event owner doesn’t have permissions to read/edit locations?
