    Yes you can. It will automatically optimize any new images you upload.
    For existing images, you can do one at a time via the ‘Optimize Now’ link in the list for each gallery (which could take a while if you’ve got lots of galleries). Or you can use the bulk option for NextGen under the WordPress Tools menu.
