[Plugin: Exec-PHP] Be Careful !

This plugin is an ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE!!!!!! It took me six hours to repair the havoc it wreaked!

After installing it, my website was completely unresponsive. It was totally NOT THERE. When I went into the site via FTP, I deleted the plugin. After deleting I thought all would be fixed. Boy, was I wrong!!

The entire wp-settings.php file had to be restored from backup. Once that was restored I had to pick through every sub directory inside the plugins directory to look for remnants of the deleted plugin. It left behind a docs sub directory and a css sub directory. Once I renamed those directories so that the function call in the wp-settings.php file couldn’t find them, all was well.

One lesson learned from this…make sure you have a current backup before you install plugins you are not sure of.

I have used Run PHP plugin in the past, it worked for me then, I think it does a similar thing as Exec PHP.

I’m using exec-php from… WP2.0 (aprox. I think) and no problems either.
…However, I’m migrating to Shortcode for execute PHP.

I concur with ahilburn. Absolutely do not use this plugin – unless you would like to destroy your WordPress site and render it unuseable and worthless. And don’t forget to keep a current back up of your files.

I’ve used exec-php for 3+ years on many sites and it’s never caused any problems. It’s also one of the most documented plugins around for installation and problems. If you have problems, go to the plugin author’s site and investigate.

Why would you rename plugin directories? If you want to get rid of a probem plugin, delete the directories.

A plugin isn’t going to write to wp-config.php; something else happened to your config file. Did you have wrong permisisons on the file?

I’ve also used Exec PHP for a few years. It’s quite honestly one of the best plugins I’ve ever used.

Exec-PHP did weird things to my WordPress 2.8.4 installation. It recommended I disable visual editor, but the checkbox to do that in my User profile disappeared. So I exported my posts and pages, uninstalled WordPress and then reinstalled. Now, when the plugin is activated, all my widgets disappear. This plugin sucks.
