here 1.0.2 doesn’t work

The fix for WP-comments is in progress, so you’ll have an option of whether Facebook comments will override WP comments.

Specifically what isn’t working in 1.0.2?

@ Rishi, integration is what most people want. If that is not the case, I think this plugin has no advantage over the others, as the others have already this feature. Question is not to override or not. Not to override may be set through css, question integration, as it occurs in Panda and Addlink to Facebook…

@fredgorski: I’m not sure I quite understand what you’re suggesting. What do ‘Panda’ and ‘Add Link to Facebook’ do that we should mimic (or do differently)? Are you saying that if fb comments are enabled, just always show facebook plugins? And when fb comments are disabled, just show wp comments?

It is quite simple. User should not choose wether to post a comment using wpcomments or facebook, rather, he sould choose either to post using facebook or not – e.g. whether he would post comment using his facebook id, into wpcomments, or not. Add Link uses this, and comments are published to facebook link too. Your system, though, obliges me to access the developers.facebook.com/tools/comment to check if someone commented on my page using the facebook comments. You don’t need to copy, it is a matter of coding, not of copying. Further on, if you figure something else even better… well, even better. Besides, you have noticed that there are more people telling plugin is broken, then telling it is working, right? I thinks this is because people are complaining because this plugin gives more “power” to facebook, than it helps wp publishers to interact with their readers.
BTW there’s three pages of comments on this topic, it means people are not satisfyied with what they got now. Of course this is a free plugin, and of course we can help ourselves choosing another. But than again, if people is collaborating making suggestion and criticizing, it means people generally would like to use your plugin.
I hope it does get better, because it is already better on some features then Panda and Add Link… But surely it’s no way to keep with it if does not give me better interactions with my readers. On that matter, it more like a plugoff than a plugin.

Is there a way to manually place the “like” and “send” button, rather than it be placed at the beginning of content post???? what should be ideal is that this be put instead right after blog post title. also the fb comments should also not be put right after a blog post. it should be the blogger who should have the control on where to put all these buttons rather than FB putting it wherever they want. and its true, it seems like after two revisions of this plugin, none of the suggestions have been made a reality.

Like the poster above, we need control over where all these elements will be placed. We need shortcodes for comments (very important) as well as shortcodes for buttons. I mentioned this a while back but never received a response. I asked about an ETA on this, no answer. I am still using this plugin but I had to hack it to get it to display my comments where I needed them. ?? When will the next release come out?

there is another feature that would be great if made avaiable, its the custom default image for posts that don’t have a specific image, and that shows when we share links ” og:image field ” and also a custom homepage image and description too “og:description”

I hope I could express my concerns clearly enough to help developers and not to make them more confused:

More important is a FB into WP import so that we always retain a native, archival copy of what has been contributed to our site. This ownership of content is why most of us are on WP.org in the first place. This import, which other plugins do provide now, from FB is important for us as content/site owners.

But I would add to our friends comment, that I have received feedback from friends, that the feature as it is now, does seems a bit intrusive, for the actual comment someone places on our post does not keep “restricted” to this post, but spreads out with a different behaviour. Let’s say, by using other fb plugins before, every time someone placed a comment, this would be added to the post, and would appear to original facebook post of that article. But now it appears to fb users wall as an update of their wall, not as a comment on a post. Do you see the difference? I will explain:
If I comment on a facebook post of someone else, this will appear to other users not on their most important updates feed, but rather on the sidebar comments feed. Only people following a post will see the updates. But, when I comment on a wpsite using facebook plugin comments this shows up as wall post to all my followers (friends) to see. Sometimes, users don’t want that, because they want either because they don’t this to feature on their wall, either cause their participation a bit more private (e.g. restricted to those with similar interests).
Thus, I felt people are less eager to comment on my pages, cause they feel this feature is (or might be) overpopulating their wall.

@ fredgorski Thanks for all the helpful tips — let me give you a summary of what I’m working on for comments at the moment, and we can see how to adapt this to be the best for users?

As suggested, I’m trying to improve the interaction between Facebook and WP comments. I’ve added a Facebook login button for every comment on WordPress. If the user is signed into Facebook, Facebook specific data will be part of the comment itself, but will still go into the WordPress database.

So when loading all the old comments for a certain WP post, comments for which a user was signed into Facebook will render that Facebook user’s profile picture, name, and any other fields the user wants to show from FB. If no one was logged into Facebook, the comment will just show up like a native WordPress comment. This way, there won’t be a decision to be made regarding whether to show FB or WP comments exclusively (this decision will be made when commenting itself).

In terms of posting to Facebook, the original plan was to post to the timeline, but based on your suggestion and what others are saying, the FB post corresponding to the WP post is where comments on that WP post should go (as opposed to the comment itself being its own FB post). I’ll look into this and see if there can be a full mirroring between WP post/comment and FB post/comment.

How does this sound? Feel free to give more suggestions, they’ve helped plan this out.

First of all, thanks for answering. I think the features are nice. Let me just make some points that might extend and even diminute the work…

I think full mirroring might be either too tricky either unproductive. I think this way: if someone posts an article from blog “x” in his timeline (sharing) he is willing to express something, maybe even start a discussion on a particular matter. If I post to his timeline post on that article, I would prefer my post not to appear on this actual blog “x” comments. Reasons are pretty simple, right? I am sure none of us would.
Now, if blog “y” has a facebook fanpage (fb fp) and posts article to it, I think comments comming from either fb fp or wp comments (suppose you are or not connected to fb while doing this) are part of the same discussion. So I reckon it the ideal state of art should be mirroring between both. Of course, this is tricky, and does take lots of work to do. I am not a developer, all I can do on developping is taking care of my site, so far as I can, and with the money I have to invest on that (=nothing so far). And as this is the only way I can contribute to your work, I would say this:

The mos important for the site owner, is to keep track of comments being made on his own site (whether it is by connecting with fb, twitter, wp, doesn’t matter). If anyone comments on fb fp timeline, it is perfectly trackeable, but as the plugin stands by now, anyone commenting with facebook will only be answered if we check the fb developers tool. And in some cases, this is quite unproductive.
Anyway, I do appreciate your work and apologize if I have ever made any rude statement on this thread.
