    Hello,
I created a Facebook page for a friend’s business, he has a WP site built on 3.4.1. Now that I installed this Facebook Plugin, I wanted to follow the instructions to activate it on his site.

    BUT the instruction
“If you don’t already have an app for this website, go to https://developers.facebook.com/apps and click the “Create New App”
does not bring me to the Developer’s page that I found when I created the app for the send/like buttons for my website.
I actually can’t find that anywhere, just some Facebook-Tech-Greek instructions that sound not related.

What am I missing? Are the instructions outdated or even the plugin?

    Thanks!

  • I have exactly the same problem, as I previously set out in another post.

That thread is stated to have been resolved, which is simply untrue. Nothing has changed, nothing has been resolved, and the problem remains exactly the same.

I want to link this plugin to my Facebook brand page, but clicking the link in settings takes me to my “admined pages” list with no option to create an app.

In fact, the create an app page appears not to exist.

Could someone from Facebook actually help with this problem instead of ignoring it like they did previously?

At present the plugin is totally useless.

The link of https://developers.facebook.com/apps is the correct link, however you do need to be logged into a Facebook personal account for it to work. “Business accounts” and similar cannot create applications on the Facebook Platform, only actual “people” can do that.

    Thanks, Otto.
You the seem to know much more than we do.

What would you recommend for people who have a FB business account and want send/like buttons on their WordPress site?

    Thanks again

If all you want is like buttons, and nothing else, then just get the like button code from https://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like/ and work it into your theme somewhere. You don’t need a plugin for that only. The plugin is for tighter integration, like pushing your content to Facebook, or allowing Facebook Mentions in your posts.. Things like that.

But you can’t do that sort of integration, or much of anything else, with a business account.

Business accounts on Facebook are, frankly, kinda crap. All you can do with a business account is administer a Facebook Page. You can’t do any tight integration or any sort. And for a pretty good reason, in fact. Facebook wants somebody to be “responsible” for that sort of integration, for anti-spam reasons. Business accounts are essentially “anonymous” and don’t offer any real point of contact.

To do website integrations which are tighter than simple like buttons, then you need to have a personal FB account, with your real name and contact info and such. Then when you visit the app creation page, you’ll have to confirm your identity using either a Text message to your cell phone, or by giving a credit card number (there’s no charge made, it’s just used for identity confirmation). Once you’re a verified human being, then you can create the FB application and create that tighter integration with your website.

Personal accounts can administer FB Pages too, so you don’t have to create a new Page or anything like that.

I really appreciate you taking the time writing this – it brings more light into the Facebook jungle, which seems to be ever changing , non-logic, and undocumented.
Undocumented… Is there any resource you would recommend reading for diving deeper?
And: if Facebook business accounts are that crappy, do they still have an impact on search engine ranking?

    Thanks again!

Whether you use a business account or not wouldn’t affect search engines in the slightest. No idea why that would even be relevant.

There’s plenty of documentation on the Facebook developers site, but it’s geared towards software developers.
