    Hi

Today I was updating/deleting some tags from old posts (some categories too). I updated a LOT of very old post, and all of them were published to my facebook fan page!

The only thing I did was adding or deleting categories or tags, so there wasn’t any “publish again to facebook” option (as when updating post content).

I had to delete all those posts from my wall, I almost went crazy ??

The only way around this right now, is disabling the plugin when I plan to udpate tags or categories, but sometimes I forget about that and BAM! lots of very old content in my Facebook wall (some dating from 2007!!!)

Hope you can fix this or provide a way to avoid it.

Sorry about my English, hope you could understand what I meant.

    Great plugin.

    Hi mimiburned,

One way to avoid publishing these old posts is to select “Publish by default” -> “nothing”.

A better solution might be to not automatically publish/update posts on Facebook if they have already been pulished on your blog but not on Facebook. Would that be usefull? Or do you have another idea?

I’m not sure if I understood you correctly ?? It would be nice to prevent publishing *any* old post automatically – unless you specifically edit that post and click on “republish to facebook”.

My blog has more than 4000 posts. It is a news blog – and whan I updated certain things (technical stuff like add tags, deleted some things) that post gets published to facebook… and it’s very old news lol…little bit embarrasing for me.

As I started using the plugin just recently, I would like that Facebook Publish just published new content from now on and to not care about post updates unless I say so a republish then from the edit post dashboard.

OMG, I am a MESS trying to explain technical stuff ??

Oh by the way, “Publish by default” -> nothing – means that for every post I make, I will have to mark the “publish to facebook” button?

I use Windows Live Writer to write my posts, and rarely use the WordPress Dashboard – unless I have to edit something.
So I guess that wouldn’t be practical and not automatic.

thanks a lot for your help and patience

What is your definition of “old post” ?

    1. post that has already been published on wordpress?
    2. post that has already been published on wordpress but NOT on Facebook?
    3. post that was written prior to the installation of the plugin?

I think the first or second definition might be usefull here.

Oh by the way, “Publish by default” -> nothing – means that for every post I make, I will have to mark the “publish to facebook” button?

Yes (and if there is no such checkbox (quick edit etc.), the post will not be published

    It would be:
    * post that was written prior to the installation of the plugin

In my opinion, it is also usefull to prevent newer posts from being published to FB (when modifying them) if they have already been published on your WP blog.

Why do you think it should (only) be “post that was written prior to the installation of the plugin” ?

“usefull to prevent newer posts from being published to FB (when modifying them) if they have already been published on your WP blog. “

I agree with that too. That and posts that were written prior to the installation of the plugin.

Ok, I agree. I will implement this in the next version / update. Thank you very much for your time and the proposal!

Sorry to bother you again with this, but any update on fixing this issue?
I have a huge blog that constantly needs editing, and everytime I forget to disable your plugin to edit, ALL edited post from 2 years (or more) ago get published to FB ??

This is very frustrating. If I disable to edit, sometimes I forget to enable it again.

I really like the simplicity of your plugin vs others, and that’s why I keep using it, but I can’t bear deleting more posts on my FB fan page ??

    Hi mimiburned,

I thought I had fixed this problem, but it seems that my fix was not working when the post was not sent from the wordpress default post editor. Sorry!

Anyways, here is a fixed version:
    https://pastebin.com/vtZC8Teq

To install this version, just go to your WP admin interface, click on Plugins -> Facebook Page Publish -> edit and replace the code in fpp_index.php with this new version.

It would be nice of you if you could give it a try and report back whether it works for you or not.

I am still working on a major update, so I wont make this a regular update but integrate this fix into the upcoming version 0.4.

It seems to fix the problem! But, now I get an error everytime I post with Windows Live Writer xmlrpc.php
So i have to disable it for now ??
