• Hi, I am developing a mini-site for Facebook using WordPress and want to put a like box at the top of every page sitewide. I have a widget area in the header and have tried to call the reveal content using the shortcode

[fblike like=”0″]CONTENT TO SHOW TO NEW VISITORS[/fblike] [fblike like=”1″]FAN-ONLY CONTENT[/fblike]

but cannot get the fan only content to work

I tried it on both my Facebook accounts, one where I am admin of the page and one where I am not.

    How can I accomplish this?

    Thanks

  • Elle,

That’s exactly what I’m doing in a widget text box and it’s working fine.

My page isn’t published yet, but when I click “Like” the page reloads and shows the content for folks who like my page.

Does it work in other areas of your site? Maybe something with your theme? Just guessing.

Hi Robert, would you have a link so I can check this out? ??

Is your widget box attached to your Facebook tab page – ie. a sidebar? Or does it work on any page that you would load through your Facebook app?

Hmm…ok i tested this on a demo site, I could get the shortcode to work IF

the homepage does not run on a custom template AND it’s the first page you land on when you access Facebook.

it only seems to work on the first page loaded inside Facebook, not sitewide – ie. if I load the homepage, then click on another page and then back to the homepage the connection is lost.

    Elle,

I thought it was working fine. I published the page so I could send you the link, then tested it out and it’s doing the same thing you explained in your last post. UGGH!!!

Back to the drawing board… and I thought I was nearly done!!!

Have you checked out WPFanPro? I think I’ve wasted enough time with this plugin. I may go that route.

No haven’t heard of it…just went and checked it out – it’s a whole theme though, I was hoping to just get a plugin because I already have a mini-site developed and just need to have some fan-only content inside of a widget area.

I am waiting for a reply from the author of this plugin to get back to me https://codecanyon.net/item/wordpress-like-locker-like-to-read-plugin/166051

Looks promising, just want to make sure it will remember the likes if the user comes back later!

I just checked out the link you sent. That looks interesting. I’ll dig a little deeper.

There’s also the IWIPA app for building a site within Facebook – but if you already have the mini-site set up you really don’t want to go through that whole process with another interface….

It looks like the WordPress Locker plugin uses the users IP address to remember if they liked the page. Which means if they like your page on their home computer and then return on their smartphone they’d see the non-fan content, right?

It looks like the WordPress Like Locker is a method of hiding content from non fans on your WordPress blog – not within Facebook.

Now if you create an app and display your site within Facebook… I wonder….

Is that what you asked the author about?

Let me know what you learn!

Yea although it does say you can change the like button to any link – ie. your Facebook page. I’m not sure if it will work how I want it to either!

    Wish I knew more PHP!

Robert, I ended up getting a solution – a custom built plugin that does exactly what I want and works with multisite too! Let me know if you’re interested in purchasing a copy and I can put you in touch with the developer!

    Elle,

I am interested. I went ahead and picked up WPFanPro but I may find a use for the plugin of which you speak as well.

    Thanks!

Sorry for the slow response, but I’ve been tied up with other business. Let me know if there is still an issue here you need my help with. I know the plugin is working for most people who’ve tried it, so not sure why you were having trouble with the shortcodes.
