• I have noticed that the plugin author doesn’t seem to be available for almost a year.

I’ve made too much alterations to the plugin that it′s impossible to me to ever update it again.

So, i ask the original author if it’s ok to me to fork it and make it too available in WordPress. All credits mentioned.

So far my hacked version has:
    – Fix for custom permalinks, change “external-videos” to whatever you want.
    – Fix for custom added videos are deleted when channels are updated.
    – Bulk edit tags/categories doesn’t throw error “invalid post type”
    – Add a new channel and plugin will create a category with the name of the channel and add all videos to that category. Good for organizing videos.
    – External-videos are treated like a common post type. No more video attach to other post. That means archive pages for all videos, and working breadcrumbs.
    – Removed media gallery, shortcode, dot sub and Vimeo (sorry, maybe add it later)

    What do you guys think?

    Hi Alex,

Funny, I just started applying patches again etc and just saw your post.

I now maintain the plugin in github at https://github.com/silviapfeiffer/external-videos . If you want me to apply any patches for your features, why don’t you fork it there and do some pull requests? I’d love to be able to apply your patches.

Of course you’re always free to fork the plugin, but maybe it would be easier if we maintained it together.

Most of the features that you mentioned above would be great to get added! (Why did you remove DotSub and Vimeo? Why did you remove the gallery & shortcode? Not sure it’s a good idea to turn external videos into common post types…)

Hi Silvia, glad to see you here.

I will be more than happy with help patching the plugin in GitHub.

I will test the new version as soon as i can.

About my tweaked/fork and features removed goes like this:

I’ve made a site to a client and i needed a plugin/script that did one thing and one thing only: pull videos from a channel on Youtube and add each video as a custom post type post.

Your fantastic plugin does pretty much that, except the part of the custom post type, which is easy to change in the plugin. But will loose ability to update.
Since i didn’t needed anything else (like media library & shortcode) i removed it.

And since there are WordPress users who seem to be interested in just that i thought i could make it available too. With a different name but with all credits. But it’s up to you, if you don’t feel comfortable with it there’s no problem.

Anyway i will check the new version and follow the plugin in GitHub.

    Cheers
    Alex

    Hi Alex,

if you want a reduced plugin, I would indeed suggest creating a fork and giving it a different name. Very happy for that – just go ahead.

But I would like to merge some of the other features that you made, if that’s ok.

    Cheers,
    Silvia.
