I have confirmed this bug and identified the issue, thanks for bringing this to my attention.

I will update the plugin with the fix soon.

I’m experiencing the same problem… also, in case it is related, I can’t get the widget to save with the “cycle” type.

If you could add the option for “random” instead, that would work too.

I have just updated the plugin with the widget issues solved.

Regarding the “random” feature, I may look at adding this to the next version, but for now, the cycle feature should be working correctly.

I updated the plugin and it now correctly displays the correct category in the widget. And, although “cycle” now saves, the testimonial that is being displayed does not change.

    You can see for yourself:

This is a production site that I am working on for a client:

Are you sure there is more than 1 testimonial in the category you are trying to pull them from?

I can see this error: “[cycle] terminating; too few slides: 1”, and can only recreate that error by trying to display a category with 1 testimonial in it, with the cycle property.

Can you please double check and report back.

Thank you for the update, I tested the widget with a custom category selected and it’s working fine now.

Something for later, Could you have a word or letter count maximum for the display widget, so very long testimonials can be truncated with a read more link to that testimonial.

I have 10 testimonials in the category that I am trying to display. Only the last one entered displays, even with “cycle” selected.

Also, can you tell me where to find the color for the background of the testimonial display? I’d like to change it to something a little less grey.

I really, really want to simply display a random quote in the sidebar, rather than using the fancy “cycle” feature anyway… so I did a workaround. I’ll post it here in case it will help someone else.

Install the Use Shortcodes in Sidebar Widgets plugin, then use the testimonial’s shortcode to display a random testimonial: [ random-testimonial category=”xx” limit=”x” ] You can even set a category and number of testimonials to display. Then, I just added a link to “Read more testimonials” to my testimonial page and I was done. (One downside is the formatting isn’t exactly the same as the name of the client isn’t italics, but I can live with that).

DoctorMicro, Im glad to hear it is working correctly now.

I will look at adding support for a word/letter maximum count in the widget in a future release.

    Thanks.

    Lesa,

I have a feeling there may be an incompatibility with a plugin/theme you are using as I can not recreate the original issue.

Have you tried deactivating your plugins one-by-one to see if the issue resolves? If you do find what caused the issue with the widget, please do let me know so I can look into fixing the problem.

With regards to the random testimonial shortcode, as the plugin was not designed to work this way, please note that I will not be providing support for this, and this may become redundant in a future release.

I will however be adding support for the widget to display a random testimonial.
