[Plugin: Google XML Sitemaps] Google Can’t Read Sitemap – 404 Error

  • Blog is hosted at Yahoo – /blog directory below my domain name.

    sitemap.xml (42KB) and .gz(7KB) are listed in that directory. Unfortunately, Google can’t read them, and neither can I – attempt to view produces 404 error.

    However, I FTPed sitemap.xml to my PC successfully, and was able to view it there just fine.

    Most files in the directory (readme.html, index.php, etc.) display properly. Interestingly, an attempt to view license.txt produces a 404 error.

    I suspect there is a simple solution to this problem, but I don’t know what it is. All help will be appreciated.

  • Same problem as above, WP 2.9.2, yahoo small business hosting, blog in a directory below the domain name, although the sitemap.xml and gz are listed in the directory, neither Google nor I can read the files. They return 404 errors.

    I got Google to recognize the posts by giving it the WP RSS feed address, but couldn’t get the sitemap plug-in to work in the yahoo based WP.
