[Plugin: Google XML Sitemaps] Sub directory URL file permissions

  • The forward facing URL I’d like the sitemap to be generated for is https://shanahanlaw.biz/.

    The WP install is in a sub directory on the server
    216.104.32.106/~shanalaw/stage/

    When first installing the plugin I was able to generate a sitemap for the IP address, not the domain name. ex: 216.104.32.106/~shanalaw/stage/sitemap.xml
    What we want is https://shanahanlaw.biz/sitemap.xml

    I created the writeable sitemap.xml and sitemap.xml.gz files in the root directory of the WP install 216.104.32.106/~shanalaw/stage/

    When trying to rebuild the sitemap manually I got the “There was a problem writing your sitemap file. Make sure the file exists and is writable.” message.

    And even when placing the writable files one directory back at https://shanahanlaw.biz/sitemap.xml the same error was given in the options panel.

    No cacheing plugins are installed. Definitely have the right file permissions. Tried 666 777 and 755.

    To summarize: two problems, cannot build sitemap file manually… domain name URL and IP WP install address issue.
