Plugin hook to catch delivery failures

I would have replied to this very similar post, but it’s closed to additional comments.

First off, I love this plugin, and I know I’m not alone in that sentiment, by any stretch. Kudos to all of you for producing such a fine–and absolutely critical–software component.

Let me be one of the many others who have asked for some sort of programmatic way to detect mail delivery failures. While it’s certainly great that the log file clearly indicates such failures, we’re looking for a more proactive, programmatic approach.

Would it be possible to provide an action hook so we can intercept delivery failures?

I’ve searched the entire plugin for “do_action” and found no references. Perhaps I missed something?
