I am running WordFence Pro with mostly the default settings. When today I tried to install a new plugin, I got this message:

“Installation failed: Download failed. cURL error 7: Failed to connect to downloads.www.ads-software.com port 443: Connection refused”

If you google the error, it is assumed that there’s something wrong on my hosting provider’s end. I, however, correctly assumed it was WordFence. Sure enough, when I briefly deactivated it, the installation of the plugin I wanted – a common plugin from the directory, nothing weird or fishy – went without an issue.

What setting on WordFence is blocking this, and what do I therefore need to change? I can’t be deactivating the entire security system like this every time.

  • Hi,
As long as you have not blocked any of www.ads-software.com IPs, I can’t see any reason to conclude that Wordfence is the reason for this issue, since you are running the premium version, I recommend opening a support ticket regarding this issue here, as we provide support for the free version only here in the forums.

    Thanks.
