When you add the widget to a widget area you can expand the settings for the widget.

Let me rephrase: When I went to install the plugin from the WP repository, it showed as already installed, which it was, but is not visible, does not show in the admin plugin list. I needed to fire up ftp to see if it was there.
    Thanks

Did you check the wp-content/mu-plugins folder? A plugin installed there doesn’t show in the regular plugins list.
