    Latest Wordpres, Latest Jetpack

Just wondering why when I hit like on the sharing it doesn’t offer a comment box to type a thought.

Without the thought, the liking of the page doesn’t appear on the persons profile except in the activity box. Which also doesn’t appear in a news feed.

Any help to modify it to have the comment box would be great

  • @jeremy Thanks for the reply. I see here on your last post, that you are going to look into this further. ***BEGIN*** @paul The Jetpack plugin uses the iFrame version of the Like button, and it has some limitations, as you realized. I understand your frustation, though, and I’ll do some more tests to see if we can work around this issue. ***END*** The Like button isn’t working properly on your own .wordpress.com blogs. Should it be working there? Brian

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

The Like button isn’t working properly on your own .wordpress.com blogs. Should it be working there?

We also use the iFrame version of the like button there, so the limitations are the same.

I took note of the problem though, and we’ll work on improving our implementation of the Like button everywhere!

@jeremy, let me add here that the folks at wpmu.org got this working for them. See this link: https://wpmu.org/post-indexer-plugin-multisite-wpmudev/ and scroll down to the bottom of the post and hit the like button to see the comment box pop up. You might have to ask them for their fix and use it.

@adewalelagos Thanks for the note. They seem to be using the HTML5 version of the Like button, so the Comment box will work indeed.

I posted earlier in the thread and ended up with a workaround but actually I’m quite happy with it. If you take a look at this post as an example https://skipology.com/project/iphoneography-foggy-lincoln-west-common/ (feel free to unlike afterwards if you want to test). I created a shortcode which I can insert into posts where I like (normally after the first main image) it has the 3 main like buttons all working as they should. I use Jetpack at the bottom of the post just with share rather than like functionality and I use Pinterest on key images via a standalone plugin. Think this works quite well (for me at least).

Facebook itself has the send button which in itself is just like the old Share button why not implement it as a official button with the like feature also?

i switched to different buttons that fixed took away the useless like post button to share now

@jeremy, it’s been two additional months. If you have indeed looked into this, what is the status? Are you planning to switch the code from iframe to html5? When should we expect these changes to be implemented? Honestly, it’s been far too long already…
    Thanks much,

I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, if another plugin is causing issues, or what, but none of my links in my Jetpack Facebook Like widget are working. (well the link to the PAGE from the TITLE is working, but nothing else) Can you look at it and see if you see anything wrong? The site is at https://walkingtreeoflife.com
