I did quite a lot of work on my site last night, and then installing the JetPack reverted things to before all of that work was done – so it’s lost! Pages and posts and widgets have disappeared, and ones which were deleted have re-appeared. Not happy to have lost all of that work!

Background details: I installed the plugin directly from within WordPress, and it all seemed to go OK, with no error messages, and happening quickly. My site is on Dreamhost and I have the WP Super Cache plugin installed, but it was not enabled because I was not ready to to that yet.

It also deleted a user added last night.

It’s not possible for Jetpack to revert your site to a previous state. There’s no code in the plugin that will delete or change any of your existing posts, pages, widgets or settings.

It might be worth checking with your host to see if your site was restored from an old backup. You might also try removing WP Super Cache just to make sure you’re not seeing an old cached version of your site.

Thanks, Andy. I’ll check with them. It’s not just what I see that has gone, but everything under the hood, including widgets added, a user added, changing the editor name for the posts, and so on, so it is like it is an old version of the DB is in place, but I did not do that myself, and the only thing that changed was installing JetPack. (Deactivating WP Super Cache doesn’t do anything to all of those posts and pages added / edited, etc. – I did try that.)

    Fwustwating.

This sounds suspiciously like your DB has been restored to a previous state. There’s definitely no way Jetpack could do this, so I’d imagine the timing was a coincidence.

I would get onto Dreamhost and see if they restored anything on your account. At the very least they might have a backup of you DB with the more recent settings.

It turns out that it was indeed a bad coincidence, that I just noticed the problems after activating the JetPack plugin. Apparently Dreamhost had a catastrophic failure on some raided drives (huh?) and DBs were restored, but I was not notified.

    Thanks for all your help.
