    Updated to v.1.0 :

Changed the default setting for how frequently the last.fm server is queried to 3 days. last.fm updates the overall favorite artists once a week, so hitting their servers every 3 minutes is a total waste of time and bandwidth.

Heya whooami – nifty idea for a plugin…. I’ve installed it to one of my blogs, but since I never listen to anything, it’s fair useless to me at this point.

Then again, who knows? May prompt me in that direction….

    Updated to v1.2

Since the 1.0 change adjusted the update time to three days, there needed to be a way to initialize the cloud display. Therefore, I’ve added a simple page in the administration area for initializing and forcing a manual update of the cloud.

vkaryl, thanks ?? everyone needs music ??

I should have thought to tell you that I like the new “face” of your site as well. Allows your content to be the star. Always love a look through your posts!

    Updated to v1.4:

    Fixed the validation issues. doh!

Yayy I’m glad I switched back to WordPress. One thing I missed: whoo being so awesome. ??

Anyway, I love the idea of this plugin, since I recently signed up on last.fm.

    Updated to v1.6:

Some hosts do not allow the use of file_get_content to retrieve remote files so I’ve included an option to use CURL rather than file_get_contents.

    Updated to 1.6.2:

Got a request to be able to limit the amount of artists displayed. It never occurred to me that some people might play a LOT of different artists.

Anyway, its done, link hasnt changed.

I rec’d several requests to make this available as a Weekly Artists Cloud also, so I started working on this months ago. After lots and lots of espresso, I finally managed to figure out the final glitch. The actual plugin is not available _yet_ but should be soon (perhaps even by the end of the weekend).

Those that are interested can read this post: https://www.village-idiot.org/archives/2007/03/10/lastfm-weekly-top-artists/ for details on the progress.

whooami, yesterday somehow i found myself on your site and i looked around and then i registered. very neat site that i barely touched yet because…i found your fm.cloud plug and thought maybe this would be good for my high school class blog and want to try it out. i am in the process of configuring the plug but can’t do much at moment because…i had to upgrade from php 4.3.7 to php 5.0.4 and my site is misbehaving. i have not yet talked to my server support but wonder is there something else i need to do, or what happened because of upgrade. i am using 2.1.1 and a bit worried about upgrading at moment. note: i raised this question about an hour ago via another thread and i will kill one of the threads as soon as i can get feedback.

I saw your registration.. what does the plugin have to do with your version of MySQL though? This plugin doesnt touch or use the database.

And I dont know where you got that it required PHP5, it doesnt. The one Ive not released is what required PHP5 — thats one of the reasons it’s never been released.

whooami, it took me a moment, maybe i read this wrong?…

    *****

    another update!

I found a way to test this on my host, so we’re good to go. Anyone wanting to use this will need to have PHP 5 available though, its just the simplest way.

Progress can be followed by keeping an eye on this page:

    https://www.village-idiot.org/gobo/5.php5

and keep in mind that you may occasionally see errors since I may be screwing with something, and/or just decided to leave it broke
