[Plugin: MailChimp List Subscribe Form] Fatal Error trying to activate MailChimp plugin

Error message:

Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or ‘}’ in /…l/creativecontentcoaching.com/wp-content/plugins/mailchimp/miniMCAPI.class.php on line 162

I upgraded to WP 3.0.5 because it did the same thing in 3.0.4 (although worked fine before I tried upgrading the MailChimp plug-in.) Also disabled all non-essential plug-ins before attempting to activate it in case of an incompatibility. I am using the Thesis theme 1.8, php version 5. Will try to downgrade to earlier Mailchimp version. ??
