• I’ve got the Mailchimp widget setup in my sidebar, but when ever you submit, all of the other widgets in the sidebar disappear and get replaced by a UL of menu items. Very distressing. I’ve been told by Mailchimp that this is a js conflict, but they are unwilling to go any further with the support, which bites. This is what I got: “there are two separate java scripts pulling in one with the wordpress install and the other with the sign up form , We would recommend going to the wordpress form, the widget is an outside application, and they will be better able to address what is actually happening, “

You can see the form here https://zhuliajewels.com/about-us/

So, I appeal to this forum, I am not a js wiz and am quite lost with this issue. I recommend MC to clients because I think there deals to small business is great, but this is the 2nd time I’ve run into js issues with there forms on a site and I may just have to come up with a whole new solution if this can’t be resolved. Any help here would be appreciated!

  • I just checked that and it appears to be working fine, at least in FF 3.6.

So you know, the jquery we load is done simply by using the built-in WordPress hook, so we shouldn’t be the plugin/theme causing any sort of conflict.

It’s working now, because I found someone who could fix it. This is what he told me:
“The form was being setup to make an ajax and load the results into that area and it was supposed to also handle the processing, I saw that the ajax submission was just calling: https://zhuliajewels.com/ which is just the home page, that is why you were getting all that stuff in there. So I looked at mailchimps example and it pointed to the actual script called “/wp-content/plugins/mailchimp/mailchimp_ajax.php”. For some reason the plugin wasn’t setting this up right, so I just hard coded it.”

Judging from this, I would say the plugin is not written very well.

Interesting. Since you’re the only person out of *tons* of people to have that happen, there’s practically no chance that it’s an issue with the plugin. My first guess would be that something else being loaded is modifying that form after it’s been displayed.

Either way, realize that since they’ve done that rather than tracking down the actual issue, if you upgrade the plugin you are likely to have the issue again.

For what it’s worth, bdgardengirl is not the only person having problems with the Mailchimp widget; it wreaked major havoc with slidedeck, as well. Took me forever to figure out it was the common denominator behind a number of javascript conflict problems plaguing several sites; when I removed the mailchimp widget, all of the problems vanished. Now that may be because the *other* plugins are all in some way problematic, but since removing only the mailchimp plugin solved the problem, it’s gotta be the one to go. So there are two of us amidst the tons of people, at least.
