• Can anyone help with specific code to change the styling of the plugin? I know it comes down to adding stuff to my theme’s CSS file, but I don’t know what id’s or tags it needs.

Specifically, how do I decrease the line-spacing before and between the field boxes? And between the ‘preferred format’ heading and its options, and between the options themselves?

How do I make the field boxes left-aligned, or at least match the text underneath the heading?

How do I get the Subscribe button in bold text, and how do I change the ‘hover’ status so that roll-over changes the mouse icon to a hand?

I know there’s a very helpful MailChimp person out there, apologies for the list of questions but I’m a bit of a newbie to modifying things.

    Thanks, Sheona

  • Hey Sheona,

All of these changes are possible by editing the theme’s CSS styles, as you’ve already figured out. ??

We can definitely recommend checking in with a web designer. We even maintain a handy list of experts who can also help you out at https://experts.mailchimp.com.

mc_nate posted a fix for left aligning the field boxes as that was a specific change we made in the most recent version. You can find his fix for that here: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/plugin-mailchimp-list-subscribe-form-do-not-install-mailchimp-v125-plugin?replies=6

The other changes will be pretty simple for someone familiar with CSS.

    Eep eep!

Thanks for your reply. Still a bit stuck though. Paying for someone else to help when it’s a matter of 2 or 3 lines of code isn’t what I want to do.

I think I can figure out the code, but by way of a test, I tried the fix for left-aligning (and a couple of others) but it didn’t work. I even tried the code from the mail chimp site’s subscribe form (which was posted as an e.g. of custom code elsewhere on the forum). Whatever code I put at the bottom of my css file doesn’t work. I don’t know if other code needs to be tweaked (my theme’s sidebar settings for e.g.). Is there a chance I’m putting it in the wrong place?

I have unchecked the ‘custom style’ box in the plugin options btw.

    S.
