If the media is linked to the post, the plugin will look for the previous filename and will replace with the new one. So yeah, there are two conditions here. It requires this link and that the previous filename matches what is in the database. If you use WordPress very normally, it should work… but depending on how you use it and the plugins you’re using, it might not work as well. It seems it works in most cases though. If you find the culprit or the problem, I’ll fix it.

Hello Microchip. Did you check if the post was linked to your images last time ? Were you using WPML by any chance ? I just released a new Media File Renamer, much better, please try it, and if any issues, please start another thread, listing the plugins you used and what you do exactly. Thanks a lot!

    Thanks a loooot ??

Hi, I am clearly a newbie at this, but I cannot figure out how to make the media file renamer work. Below is as my Dashboard screen reads:

    Media File Renamer ? Dashboard

There are 85 media files flagged for renaming out of 109 in total. Those are the files that couldn’t be renamed on the fly when their names were updated. You can now rename those flagged media, or rename all of them (which should actually done when you install the plugin for the first time). Please backup your WordPress upload folder and database before using these functions.

Rename 85 flagged media Rename all 109 media

When I click on the “Rename 85” photo/images appear, but when I click on the “Media File Renamer” option the option disappears. I click on “edit image” and there is no option to rename it.
Below is one of the images I’d like to rename: “Capuchin Crypt: Rome, Italy” before attaching it to my gallery so the current file name doesn’t appear.

    File name: capuchin-crypt-rome-italy.jpg

Can anyone tell me how to rename images?

    Thank you.

It means it has been renamed already. And definitely the “capuchin-crypt-rome-italy.jpg” filename looks fine.

If you want to rename it again, change the title of the image and update. You will see, the filename will change again depending on that.

    Thank you Jordy,
It was actually easier than I thought. I am used to having to figure out how to work around something for it to function properly. This plugin actually functions as described!

    I appreciate your response.

Cool, I’m glad. I tried to keep that plugin very easy as it could be dangerous if misused (and it used to be a more dangerous plugin before). I am trying to make it more perfect now!
