I just updated to version 1.0.25 of the plugin, and afterwards I noticed a new setting that I hadn’t seen before (although it may have already been there for a while):

On the Show Statistics tab of the plugin settings, there’s a setting called “WP-Matomo display name” which lets me change the display name of the plugin within the admin area. And it was set to “Piwik”. I’ve actually been wondering if/when the plugin would update the display name from “Piwik” to “Matomo”, and now I have a way to do that myself, so this is a nice feature to have.

However: I first tried just deleting the contents of this field and leaving it empty, with the assumption that it would show a default value of some kind. Unfortunately it didn’t, and instead it resulted in two admin menu entries disappearing completely! The sub-menu inside the Dashboard menu, and the sub-menu inside the Settings menu. Had I navigated away from the plugin’s settings page after doing this, there would have been no (easy) way for me to get back to the plugin settings, as they were now completely removed from the menu.

To me this feels like a bug. I’d like to ask if a default value can be set for this field, such that if a user leaves this field empty, then it will revert to using a default string. Obviously it would also make sense that the default string is “Matomo”.
