Plugin Modification: Front Page Categories

The plugin at the above address is near what I’d like to achieve, but not entirely. Is there any way to modify it so that it will grab a list of all the categories (by id number) and then only display the newest one (the biggest number, necessarily)? I’m not as good at PHP as I’d like, so any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
