• Hi all,

Things were going great, super smooth–and then suddenly, I changed the name of the “box” for my field group and ALL of my field information got truncated! It was completely removed. Now, inside my box, it simply says “a:” for the field I have in there when I go to create a new post.

I am trying to use a custom content type here and would love to get it working again..it was working smoothly until I changed the name of that title. Figures!

  • Same thing happened to me after adding one more field, and now my input box just says: “a:”

Yeah, it’s funny because when I re-created the fields, it worked fine. The import function didn’t work…at all. I am thinking it’s something in the “Caption” fields that is breaking it, maybe a quote or something? Any ideas would be awesome here ??

Ugh – same thing just happened to me. I managed to create a new fields box and add four fields (text input, textarea, a file upload, and checkbox). Fine. But then I edited the box, moving the checkbox to be the first field, using the little “up/down” arrows in the plugin’s GUI…

Saved, and kaboom – all the fields data was wiped out from the plugin GUI, and the meta box on the edit post panels just shows “a:”

Sigh… it was going so well. Sorta. Already had concerns b/c I can’t seem to find any support or documentation for this plugin – the listed websites are down. So this bug is the last nail in the coffin for me on this plugin, I think. Now I’m off to find another solution. Perhaps https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/custom-field-template/ – any thoughts on that plugin?

That’s a huge bummer. I would love to see them resolve this because this is seriously such an amazing plugin. It’s absolutely perfect…and in combination with “More Types,” it seems to be the ideal setup.

I used Flutter for awhile, then Magic Fields, and now this. I have also used Custom Field Templates for a couple minor things and it worked fine, no problems, but it’s just too simple and primitive for me.

Please fix this issue if you can, ‘More’ creators! Thanks for the plugin.

@andrewsvg – yeah I hope the authors can fix it as well, but meanwhile unfortunately I have to find another solution. Bummer indeed.

I have, incidentally, found plenty of tuts etc online describing how to code some custom meta boxes directly, which probably would be better but I need something fast (deadline) and was hoping a simple plugin would work.

What did you think of Magic Fields? My needs are pretty basic – just need to let the user add custom content to sidebar but only within parameters of a few prepared modules/formats e.g. in one case, there is just a headline, text, and an image (ideally, the image gets added via and uploader tied to WP’s Media Library). Sound like any of the other plugins you’ve used would work here? Thanks!

Magic Fields is GREAT. I would definitely recommend that if you don’t want to use the More Fields plugin.

I had the same problem as everyone else above, basically, in combination with all the custom fields I’d created disappear, and 32 new blank ones created. What a mess.

Allright. We’ve been hard at work at creating a new site to be able to serve all you guys with better documentation.

We launched the site this weekend, more-plugins.se (though we still lack new documenation, but the structure is in place).

We’ll look into this problem and try to resolve it asap.

(Could you guys and gals look into the custom field area of your posts to see if the content is still there?)

This is awesome. Thanks Kalstrom, excited to see more support. Great design on that site as well!

I did check and the custom field data was retained. However, I started over and re-created the fields and it’s working now..fingers crossed, so I can’t re-create the issue.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi kalstrom – I actually deactivated/deleted the plugin and since also purged all the related custom fields as I found a different approach to my need at the time. But I do recall, I think, that the related custom fields still held the data. The fields’ data was only wiped out from the plugin GUI (replaced with that “a” weirdness).

Hope that helps. And looking forward to bug fix – thanks for following up! (and please do not misconstrue my disappointment over this bug with a lack of appreciation for all the work you put into developing and providing a free plugin).

ditto re: the new site – nice work!

I reposted this error: different name, same error. Second the issue posted in this thread.
Kalstrom, absolutely great plugin. Hoping for a bugfix.

    Additional info:
When trying to export the “removed” custom fields, it still seemed to contain the right setup (date fields, etc).
    Hope this helps.
