plugin newbie

Hi,
I’m totally new to wordpress. I’ve installed the NextGEN Gallery plugin on my localhost and activated it. But where is it on my test site. Do I have to create a link/menu item to it? Should it just appear on the sidebar automatically? What stupid thing have I / haven’t I done.
