[Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] Can I insert Nextgen Gallery into a Custom Field?

I’m using Nextgen Gallery version 1.6.1 with a customised version of the Tanzaku theme. I have customised to some extent the display of Nextgen Gallery, so not super keen to update to latest version.

I am wondering if there is any way to insert the Nextgen Gallery as a Custom Field. The reason being, the site has a gallery on every post. When used with the Tanzaku theme this means that the galleries are all trying to load, slowing the site down.

If i can set a php in my template to only load the custom field when on the single post view, I think it would really speed up the site load.

I can’t just set display none to the gallery div, because it still writes all of the code into the div. I want to avoid this.

I have tried creating a custom field, and just putting the gallery shortcode into it, but it doesn’t register the shortcode – just outputs like text…

Even a pointer to where the wordpress custom field pulls it’s markup from would be a start…

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
