• I get this error when I try to activate/or upgrade the newest version of Next-gen gallery.

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 491520 bytes) in /home/server/public_html/backup/mpb/wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/admin/manage-images.php on line 481

has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know what is wrong?
I can only fix it by renaming the gallery folder (that gets me into the wp-admin), but I cannot reactivate the plugin or I get the same message. This also happened before I upgraded to wordpress 3.2.

  • it happened to me this time. I copied an older version of the next gen plugin from an image of my domain into the ftp location of the plugin. then I was able to use wp admin where in, i upgraded it and it worked fine.

If you do not have an earlier backup of the plugin folder or your domain, you might want to replace the file manage-images.php from a copy of nexgen. make sure you use the same version as the one you have installed. WARNING: I do not know if this replacement will cause your nex gen setting to disappear / reset to default.

I’m not entirely sure what I did…but it was a mix of deactivating, deleting, re-downloading, renaming the folder…etc, etc. I finally got it to update without crashing. Then I updated wordpress last, and it seems to be okay.

Thanks for your suggestion viveksanghi. I couldn’t actually find the same version next-gen as the one that was installed on my wordpress installation. But thankfully I flubbed my way through it.
