• I’m having all sorts of problems trying to get the thumbnails to be generated. When the image uploads or if I try to generate new thumbnails I get an error about a nggProgressBar being undefined. I’ve tried copying over the plugin into my wordpress plugin directory and reactivating it but that doesn’t seem to help. Has anyone else seen this type of problem?

    Thanx!

  • Experiencing the same strange issues – 1&1 Hosting, WP 2.7.1, current ngg. Same config as the guys above.

Is it possible that this issue somehow correlates to the “HTTP Error” of the common WP (Flash) Uploader (e.g. discussed here https://www.chewie.co.uk/general/wordpress-image-upload-http-error/)?! Does ngg hook on the WP-integrated routines to rework media-files?

Regarding the WP http error: none of the fixes workes for me.

Other question: Are you guys all using Macs?! Or does it occur on Windows too?

I’d loooove to have those thumbnails working…

I was struggling with the same problem for a bit but when I de-activated the “Yet Another Related Posts Plugin” (YARPP 3.0.4) I was able to get back to creating thumbnails. Not sure what the conflict is there.

Also, I’ve watched ‘top’ on my server while running the php script to create the thumbnails and the max memory used was 24M. My php memory limit is set to 40M.

I also ran into the problem when I was forced to update WP a week ago.
It is definitely a memory problem. Period. With the standard 40MByte php Memory Space and about 13 MByte Space being used by WP itself (no widgets and plugins active/installed at all) you are not able to upload a picture which increases above 640×480.
That makes nextgen definitely unuseable for all those WP users who have an account by the average hosting provider such as 1und1 and subsidiaries, which don’t increase the space unless you pay them $$.
Sad, because 640×480 is no longer state of the art in the photo and picture world. Sad because nextgens capabilities to integrate as widgets in the sidebar so easily is really an advantage compared to other gallery solutions. Specially for those who have really little time to concentrate on beautifying their WP.
In other words, I gave up (yes, even 1.30b1 did not solve the problem)

My problem is a little different, but related. Nextgen uploads images and creates thumbnails just fine, but I can only see the thumbnails in the manage gallery tab under sort gallery. I can sort the order at will, but that is the only place the thumbnails ever show up. The sorting works and the changes appear on my pages, but I can only see the thumbnails by sorting them. Problem if i want to add tags, move, delete, etc. Any help?

I just installed Nextgen to an upgraded WP 2.8 for the first time and was having this problem. One or two thumbnails in each and every gallery was broken.

This is how i fixed the problem. Go to the broken thumbnail and click “Edit Thumbnail”, then crop it and save it and the thumbnail will then appear.

    Hope it helps.

I actually used it perfectly for a while. Thumbnails worked perfectly and what not. But suddenly they just stopped appearing. When I click on “Edit thumbnail” an error comes out:

Warning: Division by zero in /home4/positix3/public_html/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/lib/gd.thumbnail.inc.php on line 290

Warning: Division by zero in /home4/positix3/public_html/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/lib/gd.thumbnail.inc.php on line 303

    Hi!
I had the same problem. I wasn’t able to create thumbnails at all. No response and no thumbnails.
I tried to disable other plugins and found out that Category Icons caused this problem.
    Now everything works!!! ??
    Thanks for this plugin.

    Hi,
i was having the same problems and found the solution after reading kobera’s post. i disabled other plugins and tried again and “cforms” was causing a conflict with ngg. now everything’s working properly. what i suggest is to upload all photos and later activate your plugins. i know this is not the way it’s supposed to be but this is the only solution.

hey im having a issue with thumbnails as well. Its a little different, I dont have any probs making them and all that, but when i go 2 display them on my gallery page the gallery thumbnail doesn’t show, but you can still click on it and opens up the full gallery and then i only have the first 7 pics come up with thumbnails. Have a look at my page and see what I mean. I’ve tried heaps and heaps of things and am still stuck. It did use to work, but cant remember if it was with an older ver of nextgen or wp 2.7.

Yeah I seem to get this error again when I have images over a certain size (dimension). I can do 800×531 but not 800×600.

I’m about ready to give up.

Alright for kicks I decided to create an 800×600 jpg image, all black. The file size was 3,179 bytes. Tried to import it in NGG and got the same error when creating the thumbnail (A failure occurred [object XMLHttpRequest]).

So if it’s a memory issue I suppose it’s related to the image dimension rather than file size… well… in my case anyway.

I suppose all image manipulation should be done offline anyway and then uploaded to the server.

I am having the same thumbnail problem and would be happy to offer access to my virtual server to troubleshoot the issue. Please contact me for access.

Similar issue using WP 2.8 and NextGen

Using my custom theme, I get the following error message when uploading images:

    ID 1: A failure occurred
    [more]
    1

The images are uploaded but the “Edit thumb” link does not display the image and does not work. Occasionally, the image is uploaded to the “gallery” dir but the thumb is not created and the image is not listed in the gallery.

If I switch to the default theme, everything works perfectly.

I have tried uninstall/reinstall, increasing PHP memory limit, deleting all plugins, etc. and the above two situations stay the same.

Does anyone know why the theme would affect the uploading process and thumbnail editing?

Near as I can figure my thumbnail problem is being cased by incorrect permissions being set on my files. So the images upload fine and then are unable to create thumbnails because they cannot be read. In order to create the thumbnails I have to change all of the permissions on the files for the CREATOR OWNER to full control.

I’m running on IIS with Windows 7 x64 RC, not that that is a big reason for it. It just looks like that whoever is creating the images is also setting the permissions strangely… perhaps not even with proper read permissions.

I thought I had the same problem, but I only had to wait till the process of uploding was really finished. Puuh, thanks Alex!
