[Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] Change what happens when click on image in gallery?

I am using NextGen with wp-eStore and would like the following to occur:

When you click on the thumbnail image, instead of being shown a slide show of larger images, I would like the user to be directed to a page dependin gon whcih image they clicked on to show a partial enlarged view and a more complete description.

How can I do this… I am fair at php and js and ajax, just need some direction to make sure I don’t break anything.
