[Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] cropped thumbnail size

When thumbnails are cropped then result will not be optimized. So when thumbnail was lets say 8KB size before cropping then after cropping (cutting smaller by edit thumb func.) thumbnail size will be many times larger ~30KB.

Why is that? Can it be fixed somehow? I currently manually optimize all cropped thumbnails.
