Is there a way that I can modify my thumbs.db file for my galleries. I want to upload full size pics to my gallery but my hosting service does not give me enough memory for NextGen to create thumbnails for the large photos (it just chokes when trying to create thumbnails). I was thinking I could create my own thumbnails and modify the thumbs.db file so I can use the full resolution pictures. Is that possible? Is there a better way to get full resolution photos in my gallery? My hosting stats follow as displayed under Manage Gallery (its a 1and1 server):

  • I thought Thumbs.db is created by Windows?

Thumbs.db is not created or used by NGG.

If you use would like to use your own thumbnails :

create the folder galleryname/thumbs and call the thumbnails thumbs_filename.jpg

Yep, you guys are right, that must have gotten placed in there by accident. I was thinking it was an index of some sorts that correlated the pictures to the thumbs but i am guessing that is done by names. One thing I figured out is that it is not enough to place the full resolution pictures in the main folder and the thumbnail in the /thumbs folder but you still have to scan the folder for new files. It will tell me it could not create the thumbnails for the files which is OK since I already did that, but until I did that process the new pics would not show up in the gallery, just in case anyone is wondering.
